“The TRX is what I think will give me the strength to hold it together at the end of an IM. The core stability is like no other and when everything is dying late in the marathon I feel the TRX core strength will push me through to the finish!”
Marilyn Macdonald
Professional Ironman Distance Triathlete

TRX Suspension Training

What is the TRX Suspension Trainer?

The TRX trainer is a full-body exercise equipment – made up of a set of straps and adjustment clasps. It is a “suspension” type equipment because it suspends from a single point overhead, and it allows you to use your body weight for your workouts.

The TRX trainer is the ‘brain child’ of the company Fitness Anywhere. And is used by thousands of people from sports professionals, to fitness trainers, and mostly by people like you and I that just want to keep fit on their own terms :o )

Why the TRX Suspension Trainer is Unlike ANY Other Exercise Equipment

OK, firstly – I am not a Fitness Anywhere employee… So I’m ‘tooting’ the TRX ‘horn’ purely as a very satisfied customer. I decide to write a review about the product, because I have used it for a long while and absolutely love it. I thought I’d share what I’ve learned and hopefully help you make the right decision about it.

In my opinion the TRX suspension trainer is the perfect way to create an endless variety for your workouts – you can choose from about 300 exercises. It’s also perfect if you like to (or have to) workout at home. And if you have a limited space to play in.

All you need is a door with a little bit of space around it. Enough space to be able to open your arms, and maybe 1.5 m in front of it…

The TRX trainer is also great if you travel frequently. It weighs 2lbs and packs neatly in its little pouch – about 20cm by 20cm. So you no longer have to plan for your workouts on the go. Pack your TRX and get going at your convenience.

Best of all – you get to make the rules. You can workout any part of your body, or all of them at once. By definition suspension training ‘forces’ you to use your core as a stabilizer, so even basic push-ups will work your whole body.

That means shorter time for workouts with many more benefits :o )

TRX Suspension Trainer Packs

So I gave you the benefits of getting the TRX as opposed to any other exercise equipment. And to be honest as far as the features of the product are concerned the only thing you may need to fret about is which TRX pack to get.

Before I move to that though, I must put your mind at ease:

- the TRX trainer is well made – its quality is commendable. It was invented and developed by an ex army guy, so you know he wasn’t going to accept anything flimsy…
- it is sturdy
- it packs away quickly and
- it really weighs only 2lbs, and is small.

Now let’s move on to the TRX trainer pack options.

The TRX Pro Pack + Door Anchor

TRX trainer door anchor

This was my choice, because it comes with the door anchor. I don’t have a wall I can anchor my TRX to, so I use one of my doors.

You should also consider getting this pack if you travel a lot – because it’s more convenient that the other attachment options.

The TRX Pro Pack + Door Anchor is mid range in terms of cost.

TRX Essentials Bundle

OK, this one is the ‘daddy’ of the TRX bundles. It’s at the top of the price range, but it comes with pretty much everything you’d ever need to make your TRX trainer a super machine.

You’re not only getting the equipment with the various anchoring methods, but you get 4 DVDs with everything from strength training to cardio and stretching programs.

You should think of getting this bundle if you don’t fancy spending time researching and composing your own workout program, or if you need sports-specific training instructions.

Have a look at the TRX website here to see the list of the stuff you get.

TRX Suspension Training Pro Pack

The TRX Suspension Training Pro Pack is the entry level pack and as such it is the cheapest of all the options.

I would suggest you only look at this option if you already have a way to secure the TRX to an above-the-head point, because it doesn’t come with a door or ceiling anchor.

This is a good option if you are a gym owner or you train a TRX class in a gym – so you’d have a common anchor point, but you need multiple units to suspend from it.

If you do need an anchor point then you’re better off spending the extra $10 on the TRX Pro Pack + Door Anchor to get the door anchor at least.
